Toog's Tune of the Day # 11 - December 26, 2024

I’ve been trying to learn how to embroider recently. And write. And cook. And design. And save money. One of these does not go well with the others.

For now, Im shit at all these things. In a couple of months, provided I don’t move on to other ambitions, Ill be mediocre. Thats probably where I’ll remain for the rest of my time on this spinning space orb.

My point is it is rare that an artist excels across numerous genres and mediums. Achieving competency in one is difficult enough. Achieving commercial success is near impossible.

JMSN (Christian Berishaj) is one of these rare cases. Check out his song Cherry Pop. And pretty please watch the video.

I came across his music recently and was shocked by his range and artistry. His discography features influences from a wide range of genres, including R&B, Hip Hop, alternative, funk, and Neo-soul. He has an unmatched ability to jump from the dark and edgy to the lively and soulful.

He also plays most, if not all of the instruments on his tracks, mixes and produces everything himself, and even directs his own music videos. For those who have seen him perform live, the conclusion is universal: He’s fucking incredible.

If you’ve listened to other music by JMSN, you’re probably wondering why I picked this song. It doesn’t exactly fit the mold of his more popular work.

For two reasons: 1) the bass line fucking slaps and 2) the music video is really cool. Its got all the grit, grunge and punk head-banging the song deserves. One commenter described it as “…sexy fight club”, which sums it up perfectly.

Keep an eye out for this guy, he’s going places.
