For a multidimensional tomb-bound being who loves dramatic, mystical, overcrowded places, I have spent a surprising amount of time in Pomona, California. There is beauty in its nooks and crannies but its a hard place. Its been hollowed out by time.
Its fitting that such a place produced Tom Waits, a man who’s renown seems to stretch beneath music, not across its surface. Enormous talent often rewards its possessors, but his style and lifestyle have precluded him from the recognition that he deserves.
His presentation is grim and gritty; it hints at but hides a greatness beneath.
As I have said before, for my own sanity, I do not think the tune of the day segment is the right place to speak at length about the artists I recommend. But I want to be clear about one thing: Tom Waits is among the greatest songwriters ever to live. If you disagree, lets rumble.
His message for you today is very simple: Hold on
And keep holding. TOOG OUT.
